On a recent trip down to Nashville, Indiana we made a special effort to seek out the decommissioned fire tower in the Dean Wilderness Forest. I got some great shots from the top of the tower looking out onto the burning Autumn landscape.
Scaling up to the tower was a rush because it was a busy day for park visitors and I had to wait for a group to come down and vacate the tower top before I scaled up the hundred-odd feet to reach the lookout. Armed with one digital camera and one film camera I rushed up the steel steps with a tripod slung around my back.
Ladybugs covered the entire structure in silent red patches from bottom to top and after passing through the lookout hatch it was easy to see we were high above the trees as far as the eye could see.
